I have a standard 2 button wheel mouse (don't know maker) and the scroll action is VERY sloooooooooow!
Is there any software/drivers I can use to correct this?
I am running windows 98se.
In the control panel I only have options for a 2 button mouse with no scroll wheel.

I have a Microsoft wheel mouse (2 button) and I don't have any special drivers loaded... just the support that Windows 98SE installed automatically. I don't have any options in my mouse icon in Control Panel that deal with scroll speed either. However, I can single-click my wheel (just like clicking a left or right mouse button) and it makes an icon appear on my screen that has an up arrow in top of circle, a dot in middle, and a down arrow at the bottom of the circle. This icon is sorta transparent appearing... I can then move my mouse up/down and the scrolling speed is controlled by how fast and far I move the mouse. Don't know if your mouse will respond the same but it's worth a try... only takes a few seconds to test it and find out. When you no longer need the scoll icon, just click the wheel again and it will disappear. :hdspin:

Thanks for your reply Jerry. I am aware of the option you mention but I am used to using the scroll wheel and since I re-installed windows the scroll motion has become useless.

Have you tried removing the mouse icon in Device Mgr and then going to Add New Hardware in Control panel and in the wizard select NO, do not search for new hardware? Then go into the dialog box to select manufrs and select microsoft, then scroll in the right box and look for MS intellimouse with wheel or one of the other appropriate models. It might prompt you for the Windows CD if the .cab files aren't on your hdd.

I agree with what Mike said, you have the intellimouse probably. If his method don't work, go to Microsoft.com....downloads....intellimouse and download the file. Worked for me..good luck.

Kenny,
I am as we speak uploading the software you need for your wheelmouse.
It is called wheelmouse.ace
I will locate it on drivers guide under mouse.
Hope this sets you up.

The latest intellimouse driver from Microsoft appears to be Version 4 which is a 10 Mbyte monster. For Win98 I would recommend version 2.2. It's only 1.2 Mbytes and has slightly more features as well - so Microsoft have dropped it! Driverguide has lots of drivers which claim to be Intellimouse 2.2 and I'm not about to test them all but Intellipoint.zip submitted by Sam Schneider looks promising:
