Hi All,
need some help :-(. Recently purchased new PC, P-Bell imedia, running XP Home. Norton AV 2004 was already installed, but I decided to also install AVG, as I have used it for quite a while on my other machines. While running a virus check with either, or both AV progs, no suspicious files are detected, which is fine, but every now n then, particularly when machine goes into stand-by, or screen saver mode, AVG tells me that it has found a back door worm, located in C;\, and that to eradicate this problem I should run AVG, which I do. However, when the prog has finished scanning all files, it again tells me that no suspicious files have been detected, but again, I get the warning! So I did a search for System Volume Information_restore, and it tells me that the folder is inacessable, so i cannot open the folder to manually delete the suspicious file, so it just remains there. HELP! I'm tearing my hair out trying to resolve this, so any help would be very much appreciated. Thanking you all in advance.

You must disable the restore function before you try to delete the file!
If restore is enabled, the restore files are protected and can not be deleted!
After you delete the suspect file, go back and enable your restore function.

Thanks Don, but that just leads me onto another question. Forgive me if I seem likean idiot, but how do i do that? I,m more used to Win 2k, and have not quite become fully familiar with XP yet. Thanks again.

the best thing that I can tell you is to put in your xp home cd and reboot the system and press delete to go into setup, tell your system to boot from d: drive/ format c:\ / then resetup your system... after you have done that reinstall norton 2004 which is very special esspically to us powerusers before you ever even try to make a connection to the internet... put norton on autoprotect then you can serf care free!!!! I hope this advise helps you & teaches you a little about your system it is very useful to know how to do your own system maintence & can save you lots of money!!!! Goodluck
