Optical drives never require a driver when used in any Windows os beginning with Windows 95.

Most Matshita UJ-xxx drives are just plain duds and require repair or replacement depending on what's wrong with them. They also are mostly sold to pc vendors and those vendors are responsible for support (especially with laptop drives). If your drive came preinstall in a laptop pc, then you must use firmware (if any is available) from the laptop maker as Matshita will not have firmware available for downloading. Most laptop makers modify the firmware in the drives they use to build their systems so even if Matshita offered firmware, it would not work on a laptop drive. If you need further help, you will need to say what brand and model your laptop is.

Also, it might be a good idea when asking for help to say why you think your drive requires firmware. ie: state what the problem is and include some details.
