I need some help with this driver, i have been having problems with the drive not reading any cds and while going through the troubleshooting it told me to uninstall the driver and reinstall it. The only problem is it didnt tell me how to reinstall. I managed to find the new driver but when I try to install it, it says Cannot initialize: 2815.

Can someone help me I cant figure this out

You don't install optical drives. The Windows XP os installs it for you automatically. If it doesn't then you have a problem with the registry that must be corrected first.

The user is not even notified of new hardware when it installs an optical drive. Matter of fact, you won't even know it's installed until you look in My Computer or Device Manager and see it listed there. If the drive doesn't appear in My Computer then do the "delete upper and lower filters fix" in the registry.

It contains instructions on the delete the upper and lower filters fix

Also, there is a STICKY posted in this forum that contains a file from Microsoft and instructions that will do this registry edit automatically instead of having to do it manually.
