First of all, this is my first post in here, so hello everyone.
Ever since I purchased a new motherboard (intel d865gbf) and processor (intel pentium 4 3.2 ghz) I have been experiencing BSOD at seemingly totally random intervals.
When I first upgraded my PC I would get them at least once a day, and then after about a month they stopped occuring. I thought the problem had fixed itself. However over the last month they have been becoming more and more frequent.
The first thing I tried was a fresh format and install of XP home. This didnt work.
Then I tried swapping around my geforce 6800 gt with an older graphics card (radeon 9800 pro). Again no luck.
Then I tried swapping around the memory followed by changing HD's. Nothing.
Finally I returned to the store I got the upgrade from and got the MB and Processor replaced. As you can probably guess, this didnt solve it.
So now Im in a position where I have pretty much discounted all hardware possibilities, especially considering all the replacement hardware Ive tried works fine in an older machine I have lying around.
Yesterday I tried disabling the onboard lan and sound card on the MB. I also had a look in device manager and noticed that the SM Bus controller wasnt installed and operating properly. I have no idea what this is, but I downloaded a piece of software from intel, which seemed to sort that out. Finally I noticed a number of IRQ conflicts on IRQ 16 and 18. I tracked these down to the lower set of USB sockets on the MB. I then disabled these. No more IRQ conflicts.
Its too early to tell whether this has made any difference. But Im so dissillusioned with it all, I aint all that hopeful.
If any of you could through any light on what my problem may be it would be greatfully appreciated.
By the way, the BSOD error messages usually come in 2 forms:
IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL
BAD_POOL_CALLER
If I remember correctly I sometimes also get:
PAGE_FAULT_IN_NONPAGED_AREA
Thanks in advance for any help.
Martyn
p.s. Ive tried practically every nvidia forceware driver with no luck.
