Hi, in july i have bought a new Acer pc. It's the model Acer Aspire T671. I have a problem with the dvd-burner. After a while the dvd burner didn't want to read cd's anymore. On the drive itself is written that it is compatible for reading CD/DVD and burning CD/DVD. It doesn't want to read/burn CD's, but it does want to read/burn DVD's. I have searched all over the web for new firmware or driver, but can't find it anywhere. I also have tried removing upper and lower filters, but doesn't work.
It's shown in My computer and if i do "properties" it says everything is fine. Also, in the Hardware manager there's no yellow triangle.
Can someone please help me?
Greetz Maarten

Just a quick suggestion; open the Control Panel, and use the "Add / Remove Hardware" wizard to UNINSTALL the DVD drive; Vista should find it and reinstall it when you reboot.

You can also search for help with this at the M$ Vi$ta $olution Center:

Good luck with this; let us know what you learn...

It doesn't want to read/burn CD's, but it does want to read/burn DVD's.

That's a pretty difficult term to understand. Is that the same as saying: "the drive burns and reads DVD's ok but it doesn't burn or read CD's"?

How could it need new firmware when it has worked ok since you got it (until now)? Firmware will not make a non-working drive work in most cases.

I suggest your drive laser has gone bad since there are 2 different laser beams... one for cd one and for dvd.

One method of test involves installing the drive in a different machine and test it there. If you have the same problem then you most likely will need to replace the drive since repairing a drive costs more than a new drive.

Another method of testing is to take the drive to a repair shop and have them test it. May cost a small fee to get this done but at least you will know what the problem is.

I already have tried to uninstall/install it and it didn't work. I have called the Acer company and they will pick my pc up tomorrow for repair (it's still under guarantee) and yes, it reads/burns dvd but doesn't read/burn cd
thx for help
