Optical drives never require a driver when used in any Windows OS from Windows 95 up through Windows Vista. Windows XP provides native support that allows any optical drive (ie: atapi compliant) to read a data or music disk and to burn a cd-r disk.
Please state what the problem is and include some details.... like is the drive visible in My Computer and Device Manager?
