Is the drive listed in Device Manager? Are the ide ports reported to be working ok in Device Manager as well? :hdspin:

My Philips cdrw 800 is not listed in Device manager. Not sure what the IDe are but checked themin the device manager and it shows them to be all working
Jerry K 11-16-2003, 12:48 PM Not the IDe... the ide ports. The port/s your drive is connected to via a 40 pin ribbon cable. You should have 3 listings under HARD DISK CONTROLLERS. Do you and are they ok?
If drive is detected by the os, then it should be listed in Device Manager under CD-ROM. If ide ports are also ok, but drive doesn't work, I can only assume it's a defective drive or it's not configured/jumpered/connected properly.
steve 11-17-2003, 08:12 PM sry writing this but do not have much info with me at school but at my home computer i look in ide drive in device manager and i have 3 one is something ide the other Primary IDE and last is Secondary IDE but i cant remember if it has master in the name right now and if i was a home i am having trouble with my interet it wont let me go to any webpages because of a stupid dns error, but yeah, and almost a week ago when it started it up it said Atapi Cd-Rom with a box underneath it and the last thing i saw is that it could not detect it and i look in the registry keys and see the drive info is there so i deleted it and thought that would do something so if anyone could help me plz send me instruction on reinstalling cd-rom drives and oh yeah if i haven't mentioned the cd rom drive does not appear anywhere now but it does do that thing after an hour where it well open up but now it freezes me from everything forcing me to restart to do anything
Jerry K 11-18-2003, 06:56 PM Steve.... what operating system are you using? :gabby:
Sinista 11-21-2003, 03:47 AM Checked connection wires everything looks good. As far as the ide ports how do i check them? It's odd that it just disappeared off computer with no trace. Have no idea whats going on. Like intermediate in computer skills bear with.
