laptops require specific drivers from the laptop maker. Generic drivers won't work on a laptop unless they been specifically hacked to work on that particular laptop. Installing Windows XP from a Microsoft Windows XP installation disk will leave your laptop in that condition. I suggest you visit some of the many Sony websites to see if the drivers are available that your system requires. If not posted, then I suggest you contact Sony tech support.

I thought this would be a good opportunity to get my
story out; Win2000 is the only version I can get to
play nicely with a dual-boot of linux (grub + seperate
partitions) but I need drivers. It came with XP, but
I only have Win2000, and for two reasons I will not get
a WinXP disk:
#1) M$ sells them at an insanely expensive
price, which further accentuates their corporational
evilness. :yell:
#2) I already like Win200 best anyway.
So, long story short, I need drivers for:
* Wifi
* Ethernet
* Modem
* Webcam
* VGA out

I suggest you visit the page first: http://esupport.sony.com/US/perl/select-system.pl?PRODTYPE=24&NAVDISP=pc
and use the "detect my model" and see if that provides any decent results. Sony has the most screwed up model numbering system of any company on earth. Many of their laptops have 2 or 3 different numbers on them. When you can't find a certain model, it's usually because Sony calls it something besides pcg-7N2L
