Hi,

I was attemting to upgrade the BIOS in a MB, becuase it had a "checksum error" on boot-up, and would always reset to default settings. The upgrade froze in the middle, and now when I turn it on I get nothing at all on the screen. How can I get the BIOS back?

Thanks in advance!

Do you know what bios is in the board? AMI, AWARD, what?
When you turn the system power on, does the floppy drive lite up?
If you have a AMI bios and can still access your floppy, then it can be an easy proccess. What mother board do you have? What bios?

It is an Award BIOS, I have more detailed information at home - I'm at work now. I will post the BIOS string later, and check for the floppy light. - Thanks!

The string is:
10/20/1999 - i810-ITE8712=6A69MH0AC-00

It said "AWARD MODULAR BIOS V6.00PG"

Does that help?

Thanks

BTW, I have found a BIOS when searching using the info above, but it is for W98 - the PC has W2K...

Hi!

Flyin'polock, you probably have crashed the bios. There are many specialized sites covering this problem. You have two choices:

1.- Flash the chip onto a working motherboard.
2.- Contact a BIOS distributor.

Personally, I prefer flash the Bios by myself. You must have a startup disk from Win9x or WinME, and must prepare another disk with the adequated flash utility -AMIFLASH, AWDFLASH, UNIFLASH, etc- and the bios file -for example p2b1014.bin- . Next, go to the working computer and use the floppy to boot. PULL OUT the bios chip and insert your chip -the bad flashed- into the base. Execute the flash utility, and introduce the name of the file containing the correct bios code. Turn off the PC, put the original chip in it place, and try to boot your board with the hot-flashed chip.

If you are too scared, can take the first choice. :)

Luck,

Noval.

I have heard something about being able to boot from a floppy in this situation, by putting an autoexec file on a floppy with awdflash.exe also, and run it in autoexec, and have the .bin file on there too. Ever hear of that, anyone?

This is a PcChips M810, rather old pcchips board!
If it was a AMI bios you could probaly reflash easily!
Dont know about award! This board has many revisions!
Ten of them! Look on the corner of the board where the keyboard connector is, the version number should be there!

Send it to your motherboard manufacture and they will flash it with the latest BIOS. it will only cost you the postage

The board IS NOT a Pcchips M810, simply because the M810 have a integrated Sis630 video, 1 AGP slot, an Socket for AMD processor and AMI BIOS!. I donīt have the manufacturer codes here for Award BIOS -look at www.wimsbios.com-, but I repeat: look for the manufacturer in these site, search motherboards with Intel 810 chipset -yeah, is yours- and download the correct BIOS. After this, hot-flash the bios by yourself or with the help of a friend.
