28.8 modems have been obsolete for several years. No current (or past) modem manufacturer spends time and resources writing drivers for obsolete devices. They're time and money is spent on current products and future products.

Your only hope of making a 28.8 kb/s modem work in Windows XP will be dependent on the Windows XP os using built-in drivers. Microsoft packaged a lot of modem drivers in the os. If it isn't there, it probably doesn't exist.

Who, in this modern day of technology, with higher speed 56k modems (that can be purchased for $15.00 or less) and the even higher speed broadband connections available, would be using a 28.8 modem? things that make you go hummmm....

My Smartlink SL2800 V92 Ver1.0 modem claims to be 56K.

I need it, even in 2009, because I have not figured out how else to use my PC to send or receive a FAX.

If anybody can tell me how a PC which has an ADSL (Braodband) connection can be used to send/receive FAXes I would be delighted to learn.

And yes, even in this era of emails, I still need to send FAX, because some places will not reveal their email adress, or use spam filters to block messages.

All u need is fax software installed on your pc. Use your favorite internet search engine and search.... you will be able to find faxing software in Windows XP.

You might also be able to find it on fleabay.
