I picked up this modem second hand so I do not have the driver for it an FCC ID search picked up the company but not the card. The only Clearly marked labels are "VIC-1 94V-0" in the top right hand corner and "COMPF WA 9329 0001D" On the bottom of the metal part. The Main Chip on it is a "STARTECH ST16C554DCJ J9539" also on the back is the mark "PN4521"

Thanks

The BRI4520 is not a modem. It's a BOCA VIC-1 STARTECH ASYNCH SERIAL CONTROLLER, ISA-16, 8 X R

laymans language: an 8 port (using Startech chipset) serial card built around 1993 (to fit ISA slot). A very expensive device when it was first introduce and today might bring $1.00 (on ebay) if your lucky. If you need a couple more, let me know... I can make you a good deal on them.

I'm not really sure what you want as you didn't choose an operating system in our request form and the device is not a modem. How can we help you? I doubt very seriously if you will find any support for this device in modern Windows os's.... or a very practical use for it unless you're needing multiple ansynchronous serial ports available on a single pc.

If it is not a modem why does it have 8 rj11 plugs on it, and i bought it as an 8 port modem also the operating system is really any windows like win9x

This device is not a modem... it's an 8-port asynchronous serial card. There is no software/driver that will make it a modem.

It has those 8 RJ11 port so you can connect up to 8 serial devices to it. Those are serial ports, not modem ports. I suppose you could connect an external modem to one of the ports to get internet connection (if that's what your trying to accomplish) but if the machine already has a serial port, why bother?

Do you know where I can get the pin out for these ports, and the driver?

You can try googling for BRI4520 or check with Boca to see if they offer it. It's very difficult to get support for any product that's 14 years old. When this product was built, the only Windows operating system that existed was Windows 3.1. Windows 95 wasn't released until 2 years later. I don't know if it was ever supported in Windows 95. I do know Boca supported it in Linux, Unix, and DOS but I don't know even those drivers are still available.

Dear Jerry K,

I saw your post from 2007 and am wondering if you can still get the Boca Research 8 port (or 4 port) RJ11 serial controllers?

Please email me or post to this forum so I get a response.

Thanks.

Tim

Mine are in storage and I know for sure I have one and possibly 2. It's been 10 years since I've laid eyes on them. I don't know of any place to obtain them from except perhaps eBay. If none are listed, you would have to check every 2-3 days to find one.

If you're interested in what I have, let me know and I will see if I can find them.
