Not sure what your problem is as you didn't say.
ie:
1: Drive will not read a data or music cd disk?
2: Drive will not read a dvd disk?
3: both of the above?

So we have to know first before we can offer help or suggestions.

Optical drives do not require any driver when used in Windows XP (other than the one that's included automatically by the OS).

In order to read a dvd movie disk, compatible 3rd party dvd decoding software like WinDVD or PowerDVD is required.

If your problem is non-detection, ie: drive is no visible in My Computer and Device Manager, then you may need to perform the delete upper and lower filters fix. please read post #24 in this thread: http://forums.driverguide.com/showthread.php?t=21669&page=4 for instructions.
