Optical drives do not require any driver other than the native support provided automatically by the Windows XP os. Windows XP provides native support that allows this drive to read a data or music disk and to burn a cd-r disk. Nothing else. If you wish to burn a cd-rw disk, you must install compatible 3rd party recording software such as that from Roxio or Nero and it must be a version designed for operation in Windows XP. Older recording software will not work in Windows XP.

And for playing dvd movie disks, you must have compatible 3rd party dvd decoding software installed like WinDVD or PowerDVD (there are others but these are the quality dvd players).

Is your drive listed in My Computer and Device Manager? If not then you have what is commonly called "non-detection". There's an easy fix for this problem.

Please read post #24 in this thread: http://forums.driverguide.com/showthread.php?t=21669&page=4 for instructions on how to "delete the upper and lower filters in the registry"

There's also a STICKY at the top of this forum that has the fix.
