Optical drives never require a driver when used in ANY Windows os from Windows 95 up. Windows 2000 provides native support that allows this drive to read a data or music disk. It does not provide any support for burning or for playing dvd movie disks. For those 2 tasks, compatible 3rd party recording and dvd decoding software is required. ie: Easy Cd Creator from Roxio or Nero, WinDVD or PowerDVD. These softwares are not freebees, quality software is a must.
