I just installed xp pro on a cow(gateway 3400) that has a built in video and when it starts up the screen goes black when it should show the log in screen. Won't show in safe mode either. Am at a loss.

If you have a seperate grfx card installed for a special monitor, you need to hook up that monitor because that's where the output just switched to or you can remove that card. If you don't, then, I'm sorry. I'm not sure what to tell you. I wish you the best.

I had the same problem Windows started the monitor on 4 colors and 640 x 480 resolution .I went to the manufacturer of the motherboard ,and recieved a new driver update program that was approved for XP.If you are lucky enough to have the driver Cd that came with your computer you might be able to reload the video drivers from it .Theres also a driver website called driverguide .com you might find helpful . sincerely Dano
