Optical drives do not require any driver when used in Windows ME. Please state what the problem is and include some details. Also, say what type of interface it has.

thanks for replying.
I am running windows ME
I know it says no driver needed but it says it is a regular cd not a cd rw

I have a torisan cd-r/rw drive unit model number cdw-u4424 5v

I have the gateway solo 5300 notebook...

this thing worked back at Christmas.. I just have not used it since then tho.. I had a virus and it fried the original hardrive so I got another one.. If I have to reformat the hard drive again I am going to upgrade to xp.. maybe that is what I need to do anyway but dont have the money right now to buy it. I think all my problems I have had with this computer all stem from windows ME. sigh..

when I try to use the easy cd creator, or any other program it says
there are currently no cd recorders available . please ensure cd recorder is powered on and all cables are properly connected ...

right now the cd rom's properties say that it needs no drivers or that the driver has not been installed.

it took me forever for my computer to actually accept the torisan as the cd rom.. it kept saying it was a standard cd rom..

thanks again.
hoping you can help!

What version of Easy Cd Creator are you using?

Is the drive listed in My Computer and Device Manager?

What is listed in Device Manager under IDE CONTROLLERS?

What is listed in Device Manager under CD ROM DRIVES?

Is the drive external or internal? If external, does it connect via usb?

If the only problem is Easy Cd Creator does not recognize the drive, then your problem is most likely the Easy Cd Creator v3.01. You need to upgrade to a newer version, ie: 4.x, 5.x, 6.x, 7.x

The older versions of Easy Cd Creator did not include support for newer drive models.

You can check Roxio website to see if there's an update available for your version but it's very old and obsolete and even if an update is available, it's possible it still would not support your drive. You may have to just get a newer version.

I don't think it is the easy cd creator..

if I am working in word should I not be able to save my work on cd? it is not an option there either.. I will try an updated version of easy or else something else to see if it is the problem tho.. maybe it is . I am hoping so.

I think tho it is my cd rom tho.. the driver is saying it is a STANDARD cd and not a cd rw ... I will let you know when I try it.. It will prob be tomorrow night tho..

thanks again. I appreciate the help so much!

I'm not aware of any recording software that will burn Word files directly to cd unless it perhaps would be via packet writing software. I doubt Easy Cd Creator 3.01 has that option. Any recording software that will recognize the drive will burn files written to hard drive but direct from Word, I don't believe that can be accomplished.
