Optical drives never require a driver when used in any Windows os from Windows 95 up. Windows XP (like all other Windows os's starting with Win95) provide native support that allows any optical drive to read a data or music disk. Windows XP even provides burning support for cd-r disks.

And fyi, Sony doesn't build the GCC-4080N, LG does.
