This file is automatically installed in the correct folder by the install program which requires it. eg: If you're installing or enabling the usb port, this file is automatically extracted from the install files and placed in the default folder.

I just purchased a Creative Labs MuVo TX FM MP3 player (1/05) . I have Windows ME. The Windows Me was installed on my computer when I purchased it (Compaq) I did NOT get the Windows Me disc along with the purchase. I need the same file. Your response assumes we have the disc. We don't! Please, where can we get this file? This website isn't helping me at all yet.

Yes, I assume you have a legal copy of Windows ME... either oem or retail. Microsoft also requires you to have a legal copy before using their software.

Then perhaps you prefer to try finding a website of your choice that can help you illegally because we can't. Microsoft didn't provide a retail version of Windows ME os for Compaq, they provided OEM rights to Compaq. And Microsoft could care less if you have a working system or not... Compaq isn't much better.

You must understand copyright laws... apparently you don't. We are not allowed to distribute or post copyrighted files nor can we provide them for you. If you want Microsoft files then you best figure out a way to get them legally.

Note: Retail versions of Windows ME, by default, write cab files to the hard drive during installation. OEM versions I don't know. Best way to see is search your hard drive for *.cab . If the file exists then redirect the driver installation program to where this file is located... the exact driver file required is drivers.cab. This file is required to install usb files as well as other files required when certain programs or hardware is installed or enabled in system.

Yes, I have a legal copy of Windows ME. It was installed on my computer when I purchased it new. Compaq doesn't provide the disc. Yes, I do understand copyright laws. I am not remotely attempting to do ANYTHING illegal!!! I was under the impression that this was something I could get from this website like the free downloads on CNET. I thought that's what this website was! I'm not trying to steal anything, so your very snide response to my request is highly unappreciated.

Thank you for at least remarking about the *.cab in the hard drive. Never heard of it. I'll try that.

I never accused you of stealing or trying to steal. I simply pointed out to you that driverguide.com nor any member of driverguide.com cannot post copyrighted files and stay within Microsoft's legal requirements.

Along these same lines. While trying to install a driver for a Dell 720 printer on my HP laptop I deleted a USB Root Hub device in device manager. Is there a way to restore this kind of device? I have the disc, but isn't there a way to restore a device or driver that one inadvertently deleted?
