hi!
the installation of epson multi-functional device "DX4050" (I don't know the reference device in US market) fails with WinXP SP2 on motherboard MSI K9VGM-V with VIA K8M890CE:
in device manager there's "USB MFP" listed.

this issue didn't occur when system was running with SP1.

latest driver from epson is used.

looks like a correlation between Win XP SP2 and VIA chipset.

any ideas to resolve this?

I suggest you use the support options provided by the manufacturer: eg: E-Talk, E-Mail, or Phone support.

Most likely they will suggest you download/install the latest VIA chipset drivers but there may be some special fix for your particular problem.

I believe that VIA chipset doesn't make problem. SP 2 is very unwanted with USB ports, especially printers port. Take a look this site, you must find something for you PC.

SP2 is very necessary in order to get USB 2.0 support in Windows XP. Without SP1 or SP2 (and now SP3), you will only get USB 1.1 support. If you have a USB 2.0 device connected to the USB port(s), you will only have USB 1.1 support without the service pack update.
