Hubs do not require drivers when used in Windows XP. If the device doesn't work that's a sure sign there's a problem with the usb controller. Tell us what is listed in Device Manager under USB Controllers?

If the machine came with usb then usb is supported by the OS. SP2 includes support for usb 2.0
