that's because you don't know what your hardware is. use this software (it will help): (you must identify your system motherboard and pc brand and model along with the correct sound chipset number)

To find make and model of pc hardware, EVEREST Home Edition is a free system diagnostics, system information program that will id most hardware onboard a mb. as well as the actual motherboard.

http://www.softpedia.com/get/System/System-Info/Everest-Home-Edition.shtml

Alternate Everest download link: (offers 2 sites to dl program from)
http://www.softpedia.com/progDownload/EVEREST-Home-Edition-Download-16369.html

Run the program and then:

Click on Computer
Click on Summary
Right hand window (hardware) if the text is blue this is a link to the web site for that particular hardware.

If you need additional help, please post a SUMMARY report from Everest.

I've got exactly the same issue with the same driver needed, and when I click on the blue link, it leads me to a page that no longer exists... I've got the summary report printed out.

Here's a link to the summary file

http://download.yousendit.com/0815266F12224467 (it's the Intel 82801 EB/ER (ICH5/ICH5r) AC'97)

Any help, would be greatly appreciated, thanks.

Intel 82801 EB/ER (ICH5/ICH5r) AC'97) is not a proper hardware description. You will most likely be very fortunate to find a working driver using that description as it can apply to literally hundreds of sound devices. Please read post #2 again.
