The downside of buying HP/Compaq machines is the manufacturer doesn't offer free driver downloads. Toshiba, Dell, Sony, Gateway does offer excellent driver support for free.

Greedy HP wants into your pocketbook before they help. Another downside of laptops is they require specific drivers from the manufacturer, generic drives won't work.
