There used to be a site out there somewhere that would check your entire system for versions of all software and give recomended updates with links to get them. Does anyone know where it is or if it still exists and what the link is

http://v4.windowsupdate.microsoft.com will update your Win for free.
Other SW updates are at the respective Brand Name Sites. They don't scan your computer; you order whatever update you want and -of course- you PAY to get it. Otherwise they will be out of business in no time. Free downloads (and shareWare) you can find at CNet etc.

There is an "Update Service" website. I'm not sure this is what you are looking for . See address below.

The only one I know of and probably the one you are referring to WAS:
CATCHUP.com and it was wonderful! It read your system and came back with all installed (including all duplicates, which amazed me) what versions they were and what updates were available and a link to automatically download and install them for you.

They're no longer doing business since quite awhile now. Probably a couple years.

If anyone knows of someplace similar, PLEASE let me know!
