I had this DVD writer given to me and have no driver for it. I have googled it but can only find firmware. I believe Windows drivers can be used but judging from various forums they aren't very successful. Computers hanging etc. I could do with some help with this one!

Optical drives never require a driver. Windows XP provides native support that allows this drive to read a data or music disk and to burn a cd-r disk. XP does not offer any support for burning cd-rw disks or dvd disks or for playing dvd disks. All that's needed additionally is compatible burning software (like Easy Cd Creator or Nero) and dvd decoding software (like WinDVD or PowerDVD).
