I seem to have a generic windows driver for my DVDCD burner drive and only views it as a CDRW drive. So I'd like to correct this and start burning DVDs again..

Support Information:
Device Type: CD / DVD
Manufacturer: BUSlink
Model: DVRW412RD
Interface: IDE
Operating System: Windows XP Home
Age of Device: < 2 years old
FCCID:

Type of drive: dvd-r/cd-rw (dvd burner, dvd reader, & cd burner combo)
Location: internal
What recording software are you using?: Nero/version

Find it on DriverGuide (http://members.driverguide.com/index.php?action=srch&sm=b&aax=&qa6=1278&qa5=3&qa7=1500&dp=2&qm0=DVRW412RD&jmd=and&fzz=d) | Find it with Google (http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&lr=&ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8&q=BUSlink+CD+%2F+DVD++DVRW412RD+Windows+XP+Home+) | Research manufacturer BUSlink (http://members.driverguide.com/index.php?action=getinfo&companyid=1278)

You don't need any driver.... Windows XP provides native support that allows this drive to read a data or music disk and to burn a cd-r disk. Anything else (burning cd-rw, burning dvd) requires compatible 3rd party software, ie: Nero, Roxio, Power2Go, Alcohol 120%, etc. Support for burning dvd disks comes solely from the burning software (not from Windows os). You say you have Nero (what version) so what's the problem (other than Device Manager showing incorrect drive)? What issue/problem does that cause?

You will need compatible 3rd party dvd decoding software in order to play dvd movie disks, eg: WinDVD or PowerDVD.
