No you don't. Optical drives never require a driver when used in any Windows os from Windows 95 up. Windows XP provides native support that allows this drive to read a data or music disk. For playing dvd movie disks, compatible 3rd party dvd decoding software is required. eg: WinDVD or PowerDVD
