R U using version 5.x or higher Easy Cd Creator (preferable v6.x or 7.x should be used). WMP should also work to burn cd-r disks. If nothing is wrong with the burning software, then you probably have a drive problem.

By working properly, do you mean it reads disks ok, just won't burn?
