Optical drives never require any driver when used in any Windows os from Windows 95 up. Windows XP contains native support that allows this drive to read a data or music disk and to burn a cd-r disk. If you don't have a proper running Windows os, this could cause problems but I really don't know what your problem is because you never took the time to say. Is the drive listed in My Computer? If not, that's non-detection. Issue has been discussed in multiple forums.
