I have been running W2000 on my desktop computer for the past 2 years and had no problems. I recently down loaded some MIDI files and since then I cannot run the following applications or perform the following housekeeping.

1. most icons on the desktop appear unknown type (My Docments, Internet explorer etc)
2. clicking my computer opens box, but no drives appear and locks up computer
3. AVG opens and starters to run, but when I scan the total files scanned stays as zero, no files scanned. progrogramme manager confirms it is running. HDD is not being scanned..
4. Runnings todays version of Stinger picks up no viruses
5. repairing W2000 find nothing missing.

Having to reboot locks up the computer, bringing up the Task Manager shows no applications running, but after waiting for several minutes "End programme- 48c." appears licking end this process locks up the computer. After a time of the OC being locked up another dialoge box confirms that it should, close Iexplorer.exe"

I can't save all my files to a DVD cos I can't see the burner from Nero, can't see any external HDD drives to do the same.

Had anyone had a similar expereince in the last 2 weeks or so?
Seems very strange as I am not a messer and tend to leave computer to work. Any ideas or advice?
