NEC North America does not even list VersaPro models. That's a strong indication this machine is not sold nor supported in North America.
http://support.necam.com/Downloads/search/default.htm
I suggest you go here first: http://www.nec.com/cgi-bin/support/support.cgi?cat=download
Then select the country of origin and look on that site.

There is no such audio chip as Intel 82801. Sound chips bear names like Realtek, Cmedia, ADI SoundMax, and Sigmatel. Laptops require specific drivers from the laptop maker as generic drivers will fail install. I suggest to visit the laptop makers website or send them email asking for help.

Hi everybody!
There seem to be sound devices made by intel. At least Vendor and Device IDs identify some hardware as that.
The 82801CA/CAM AC97 Audio can be found:
see pcidatabase online:
vendor: 8086 device: 2485 AC97 Audio Controller by Intel Corp.
http://www.pcidatabase.com/search.php?device_search_str=2485&device_search=Search
the device is also listed in ALSA-PCI-Device-List:
82801CA/CAM AC'97 Audio Controller 8086:2485 intel chipsets 800 series.
http://www.calel.org/pci-devices/alsa-device-list.html#Intel
now for the driver hundreds of people out there are searching for:
I'm still searching, sorry guys. But i found a driver for DELL Latitude C610 (look for is on the DELL-Website or here:
http://support.euro.dell.com/support/topics/global.aspx/support/downloads/en/downloads_splash?c=de&l=de&s=gen&~mode=popup&file=57707). Looks like a Crystal WDM Driver. The Vendor and Device ID seem right and it installed without errors. My problem: Code 10... Device could not start.
Perhaps the driver helps someone else?
We might be all on the wrong way and there is something terribly wrong with the device/vendor id's.

Need same driver, everest identifies the audio device as Intel 82801CAM ICH3-M ;
it's an onboard audio device on a laptop. The mainboard is:
Mainboard name: Intel Sheeks
Chipset: Intel Brookdale i845E
I tried to search google, intel sites, tried the dell c610 drivers and others
Maybe this one will work for you (for me it didn't)
