I have a problem with a Compaq Presario 705-EA laptop.
Recently had to re-format HD and re-install Win-XP (SP1) from scratch.
Problem now is that the onboard Texas PCI-1410 Cardbus Controller rejects my Trust Firewire adapter card (DV410) with the following error message:-

"The device "Texas Instruments PCI-1410 CardBus Controller" has detected a CardBus card in its slot, but the firmware on this system is not configured to allow the CardBus controller to run in CardBus mode. The operating system will currently accept only 16-bit and not 32-bit..." etc, etc., and the green light on the adapter does not light up (as it did before).

All data I can find tells me that Windows-XP should support this device. Does anyone know if in fact the original Presario 705-EA contained special drivers for the Cardbus Controller....?? [Cannot find any reference to this on what is left of Compaq support on HP.com]

Regards,
Graham.

visit the compaq web site. failure to load the motherboard chipset drivers can/will cause issues like this.

Hello Damien,

Thanks for the reply. I have hunted through what is left of Compaq support on the HP.com site, and I didn't find any mention of motherboard drivers for this model of Compaq laptop.....

Do you know of an alternative site which might have an archive of all old Compaq upgrade drivers, ROMPaqs, etc....??

Another alternative would be to identify the chipset(s) on the motherboard, and look for driver upgrades on the chipset manufacturer website - do you think this is advisable....??

(Compaq Presario 705-EA laptop, Win-XP + SP1)

Regards,
Graham.

Compaq "HAS" all available drivers... if they made a driver then compaq manains a copy of the driver for most 486 and higher based systems. please spend time reading directions on their site usage,

note that compaq also posts the laptop model specs/descriptions for most models made from pentium class on up. again make use of what the vendor provides.

and again.....
To replace lost recovery discs or Quick Restores for Microsoft Windows 98, Me, and XP, contact Compaq Technical Support at 1-800-OK-COMPAQ.

a quick check at looking at the units specs plainly shows that this unit uses a AMD cpu, as such it therefor will use a AMD or VIA motherboard chipset. and also states that it uses a via based video subsystem why not try the VIA web site (viaarena.com) and see if the hyperion (4in1 drivers work)

Thanks Damien,

I already have all the relevant drivers from the Compaq site. I was hoping for some others specific to the CardBus Controller....

The VIA driver approach sounds like a good idea. I will visit the VIA site and download some updated drivers, and give it a go.

Regards.

This issue has nothing to do with chipset drivers.
Your post indicates you installed SP1 but your system may not have properly updated.
Run Belarc Advisor to see if SP1 and all hotfixes were properly installed.
http://www.belarc.com/free_download.html
If your notebook did not come with WinXP and your are not using the Restore CDs from Compaq you my also need to update the BIOS firmware.

This error is common in Windows2000 the fix might work in WindowsXP.
"The following operating system registry key needs to be updated "
1. Start Regedit.exe
2. Locate HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Servic es\Pcmcia\Parameters key
3. Click Edit -> New -> DWORD Value
4. Type Value name DisableIsaToPciRouting and keep value of 0
5. Reboot your PC
