Bismillaah. Salaam(Peace); My maxtor HD suddenly lost all visible partitions. I had copied some programs from it to my CD drive earlier in the day, but when I plugged it in again, all of the drives letters had disappeared. It's still listed in device manager, (win xp) all drivers are ok, and the drive is listed as functioning normally. I uninstalled it through device manager, and it re-installed ok, (or, new hardware found, was indicated) but still no visible partitions. Has anyone else had a similar experience. What's happening to this drive. I'm running win xp, on a Compaq Presario 2500 notebook, P4, 512 Ram, 2.4. Any help will be appreciated.

Do you feel that anyone can reliably offer any help when you fail to post any information about the drive or how it connects to the pc?

After 9-11, I wouldn't use Iranian words on an American website. That's sure to get no response.

Bismillaah {In The Name Of THE GOD} Salaam(Peace); Jerry k, I apologise for not providing the following info: Maxtor 5000LE external USB, harddrive, 80 GB, 2 MB cache buffer, usb 2.0 & 1.0 compat.

P.S. I am glad that you mentioned the "Arabic" transliteration that I used as it allows me to explain it. Salaam.

Incidently, I don't follow the 9-11, hype. My belief is, that it is 'cover-up'.

Do you have the installation manual and installation cd-rom? Please read and following the instructions provided in your manual. If you don't have the manual, you can download it by clicking the link below:

Bismillaah. Peace; Thanks for the url. I have the manual and CD, and tried a repair, from the CD, but there was no change in the storage drives status. There is no indication in win xp, disk management, that the maxtor drive exists.

Bismillaah Salaam, I invested in a small multimeter and did some testing on the maxtor drive circuit board. I found three (3) open diodes, and two (2) bad capacitors. I'll be needing a new USB 2.0 adapter, if I use the drive 'externally'.
