My problem is simple, i have no sound at all on my Computer! Im running off Windows ME, and i dont know what is best to do. I dont know what sound drivers i need to install because im not sure what my sound Card is.(Assuming the Drivers are the problem)
I have a Program called Fresh Diagnose which tells you info about your computer, and in Multimedia Devices- under the titles of Auxilary, Wave in, Wave Out and Mixer it says i have no Device Installed.
Under the Motherboard heading it tells me that my Chipset Vendor is VIA Technologies, and that my System Enclosure or Chasis- Manufacturer is NEC Computers International. Does this mean that i need to Install Sound Drivers from VIA or NEC?? I tried installing a Driver from VIA but nothing happened.
Can any body please please please help me, and i would be eternally grateful.

Thank you

Holden

You need to first determine if you have on-board sound or add-on sound. Engage eyeballs for this procedure.
Method #1: Open pc and LOOK.
Check the plug where your pc speakers plug in. If the cable from this jack is attached directly to a sound card, remove the card and note id and chipset numbers and repost with the information you found. If sound is on-board proceed to method #2.

Method #2: If sound is on-board, then note the sound chipset and it's numbers. It's usually a small black square chip. If you cannot find which chip is the sound chip, then note the bios id string that appears in the lower left of your monitor during bootup. Press the Pause/Break key to freeze the screen long enough to write down the bios is string.

Repost with information. Bear in mind that we do not allow requests for drivers in this SUPPORT SECTION. So, if you need drivers repost the information needed to obtain the correct driver in the DRIVERS REQUEST forum.
