on the visioneer 5820 one touch scanner, keeps giving message, when trying to scan, check on lock on bottom, there is no lock, that i can see. any help would be app. thanks

the error msg happens when the scanner tray does not move..this can be caused by the shipping tray lock.. (read mfgr site models manual for directions) set lock to open position.

or defective hardware that is preventing the tray from moving.
such as bad belt stroped gears, defective tray motor, and so on...

damien, that's just rude. This "locked" message is a known problem with Visioneer 5820 scanners. With, apparently, no solution from Visioneer.

The 5800 driver allows the 5820 scanner to operate, but without the transparency feature.
