My computer is having trouble updating my USB drivers. The Upgrade device driver wizard keeps saying "The installation failed because a function driver was not specified for this device instance" !!! I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling but to no avail. Any ideas will be much appreciated.

The usb driver must be already in the WINDOWS 2000 winNT sub folders. I had the same problem when trying to establish a working set of files and drivers for my PC-Link cable at work. A co-worker suggested manually loading the drivers after runing the setup program. Go to START>SETTINGS>CONTROL PANEL>SYSTEM>HARDWARE>DEVICE MANAGER>USB SERIAL BUS CONTROLLERS and see if the "USB Bridge Cable" is in the list. If it is, then reload the cable driver for the device you're adding. If you cannot see the "USB Bridge Cable" in the USB list of controllers, then you must run the setup program again to have the device recongnized by the OS.
I fumbled around as usual. However two heads and 4 eyes are better to solve these problems when there are so many variables and there may be a certain order to the setup/installation.
I had down loaded 3 versions on two machines. Then realized I had better run the same version of the program no matter what the version of OS or drivers. Until they were the same version program, it looked like it was working then would hang.
Good luck!
