I reformatted and reinstalled win98. Now I can't connect to the internet. When I click on internet expl. all I get is "page not displayed". I was connecting to the internet thru cable not dial-up. Between Gateway and my ISP one person is naturally saying it's the others problem. Between talking with the both of them, I think what my problem is,is my computer may not be recognizing my ethernet card. I have taken my computer apart and the type of adapter that is in my computer is an ENL832TX+. I have downloaded from Driver.com the Nway.zip file which is supposed to be the driver. Since I am a computer dummy I am lost at this point. I have unzipped the file, and now I have all kinds of folders, etc. staring me in the face and I have NO IDEA what to do next. Is their anyone out their that will take the time to explain to this dummy what I need to do.

I am using my other computer at this time to communicate now. I have transferred the files to the computer with the issue. You can contact me at butterflywrenn1@yahoo.com I would greatly appreciate anyone who can help this poor girls dilemma..............

thanks,

The first thing you need to do is open Device Manager and check to see if the NIC is actually your problem. Start, Settings, Control Panel, System Icon, Device Manger tab, Network Adapters. If it's not listed or is flagged as having a problem, then you do need to install the driver.

Now the next problem is which driver to use. I don't know anything about the driver you mentioned. However, I would first exmaine the NIC and see for sure what the model number is and also note the chipset (eg: Realtek xxxx). Once you determine that info, then visit the Encore Website (www.encore-usa.com/driver.php?) (the manufacturer of ELN832-TX+). Please note also that Encore doesn't list a ELN832-TX+ model. In their current Ethernet section they list 2 models:

ELN832-TX-VANT
ELN832-TX-RENT

and in their Archived section they list a model ELN832-TX++ model.

Try to detemine which model best matches your's and download the appropriate driver. Alternately, if your nic has a Realtek chipset, note the number on top of it and visit the Realtek website (www.realtek.com.tw/downloads/downloads.aspx), download the matching driver and use it if you wish.

If files you download are in zip format, unzip to a temp folder, then read the text files included in the new folder where files are unzipped to for instructions on how to install it. If the driver file happens to be in exe format, just double click it after downloading to start the extraction and follow on-screen prompts or read the text files resulting from the extraction for further instructions. :)

hey Jerry and thanks for responding. I will tell you what is listed in my device mgr. Under network adapters I have dial up adapter. Then right under neath network adapters is Other devices, under this are 3 things. The first is PCI Communication Device, then Unsupported Device, then Visioneer one touch (which is my scanner). Now here is another problem, where it says Unsupported Device,it use to say PCI Ethernet Controller. But when I was on the phone with a tech from my ISP,(I'm now wondering if he was a tech?)he told me to change it from PCI Ethernet controller to unsupported device,so that we could try something, which didn't work. How do I get it to go back or say PCI Ethernet Controller like it was before, because this is what I need to click on to install the driver. I think?

All 3 of the items listed above under other devices have a yellow question mark in front of them. The first one (PCI comm. dev.)also has an exclamation mark with the question mark. The second thing (unsupported dev.)has no exclamation mark. The third thing (Visioneer scanner)also has an exclamation mark, but that may be because I have not downloaded that software yet since the reinstall.

I had done a print screen of my device manager for you to see,but did not know how to email it to you so you could look at or put it in this forum if that was possible. So hopefully I have this written clearly enough for you to understand it.

Also, I have taken the cover off of my tower and this is what is written on the ethernet card.
ENL832-TX+
then under this is a bar code.
next is 122700207032671

there is also another small white label with the following:
00E07DDBE0BF

not sure if any of this makes sense to you or not.

I think when the guy got me to change whatever in my device manager that my computer is not recognizing this ethernet card. As I said I'm not real familiar with all of this so I hope you can understand it.

thanks,

First disconnect your scanner (if connected).

Next open device manager and find the flagged devices.

Right click each flagged device (one at a time) then left click uninstall (including the listing for unsupported device)

Make sure you have the driver for your ethernet card handy as well as the driver for your modem (the pci communication device is your modem).

After uninstalling flagged devices, reboot the pc. During bootup all devices will be detected...wait til notification completes... when prompted that each device requires a driver, point to the folder/drive where driver files are located.

Don't connect or install your scanner until the modem and ethernet card are working properly.

Recheck device manager after completion and give us a report what is listed if you still have problems.
