I am running windows 98 but I want to install xp and it requests that I update my bios.

the mother board is : VIA Tech VT82C596

12/31/99-VP3-596B-DD-2A5LED4GC-B0 is not a FCC ID #. It's a motherboard bios id string and should not be typed into a FCC ID data box.

And it belongs to a DFI K6BV3+/66 and K6XV3+/66 motherboard not a VIA Tech VT82C596 motherboard. VIA Tech VT82C596 is a chipset/number not a motherboard. Your motherboard has a VIA MVP3 chipset.

04/12/2000 and 09/26/2000 is the last bios released for this motherboard. Both mb models are listed under the Socket 7 section here:
