brand new scanner, with system up, plug in usb and power, it works fine.device manager shows imaging device no flags. scanner works great. when i shut down for a period of time and reboot, scanner loses connection, new device found (message) scanner doesn't work? no imaging device in device manager, and red flag under usb unknown device in device manager? system is dell pentium 11 400mhz 256mb. i have tried many things through HP (5 hours) nothing seems to work? can anybody help?

You said nothing about having or installing the software that is required to make this scanner work.......you must install software according to HP instructions. If usb port is not installed or working properly, scanner will not work either.

If usb port is not installed or working properly, scanner will not work either.Software was installed properly, and scanner works through usb ports 1-2 & 3&4 on usb 1.0 pci card? it's when i shut down pc, scanner loses it's communicating and no image device reappears? and unknown device goes to usb with red X all in device manager, and scanner will not work?
