I am running windows 98 but want to install xp and it requests that I update my bios.

well there are a few things you need to do.

#1: State what motherboard you have.

#2: State what brand and model it is.

#3: State what the bios id string is.

#4: State if it's a retail or OEM mb. If oem, what brand and model pc is it installed in?

Award is only the bios maker. They didn't build the motherboard. This might aid you in iding your hardware:

To find make and model of pc hardware, EVEREST Home Edition is a free system diagnostics, system information program that will id most hardware onboard a mb.

Run the program and then:

Click on Computer
Click on Summary
Right hand window (hardware) if the text is blue this is a link to the web site for that particular hardware.
