"ptserial.sy_" is the Generic windows modem driver for a PC-TEL HSP56 modem.

the windows file is a COMPRESSED file located within a windows cab file.
you either have a bad copy of windows or a defective/dirty cdrom drive.

a solution is to REMOVE YOUR PCTEL modem during setup and the download the correct model modem driver and then reinstall the modem and use the mfgr's driver instead of the generic windows one.

and you statement window will not allow you to continue is rubbish....that is why the requestor box has a "IGNORE" selection besides search or retry

the file i need is Ptstreli.sys for a dial-up modem i have. it says it should be in my driver cache\i386 folder but it is obviously not there. i am attempting to install my dial-up modem becuase for some reason somthing on my comp is blocking my broadband internet connection. it will probably block my dial-up too but i am hoping it will not. i did have some firewalls but i uninstalled one and deleted everything from the other cause it would not uninstall. i got all but one registry file which i can not delete.
I am running Windows 2000 Pro with an overclocked cpu of 699megs (intel celeron) and 256 mb ram.
