Optical drives never require a driver when used in any Windows os from 95 up. The Windows 98SE os provides native support that allows your drive to read a data or music disk. However, Win98SE does not provide any burning support. For that task compatible recording software (like Easy Cd Creator or Nero) is required.

Please state what your problem is, eg: non-detection of the drive by the os, other. Is the drive listed in My Computer and Device Manager? If not then you do have a non-detection problem. The following conditions can cause non-detection:

1: IDE port is not enabled in bios.
2: Probem with ide cable or connectors, cable partially dislodged from connectors, power cable partially dislodged or loose or not connected, etc.
3: Wrong ide driver installed. Check in Device Manager to insure the ide port is working ok.
4: Master/slave/CS jumper in wrong position.
5: Incorrect or wrong firmware flash attempts.
6: Defective drive
