You cannot have an external drive with an IDE interface. External drives can only have parallel port or usb interfaces.

and your statement What recording software are you using?: Other (Other: I.44 MB FLOPPY) does not make any sense. a 1.44 mb floppy is not a recording software.

You should know (as a senior member) if you've done any reading here, that optical drives NEVER require a driver when used in any Windows os from 95 up. (or do you just post and never read?)
