Hi,
I have tried everything I can think of to find the driver, encoder and decoder for this device. The drive spins but it will not play audio CD's or Video DVD's, yet my notebook says the device is working properly.
Please help.

Thanks,
Shella

Optical drives never require a driver when used in any Windows os from 95 up. However, yes, dvd decoding software is required, ie: WinDVD or PowerDVD and is sold by numerous retail software stores as well as online vendors. The lack of dvd decoding software will only prevent the drive from reading/playing dvd disks. For data or music disks, nothing special is required. Windows provides native support that allows this drive to read a data or music disk. Where are you looking that tells you everything is ok? Give us a report from Device Manager detailing the CD-DVD section and the IDE CONTROLLER section.
