Hi all,

I installed the printer driver for an HP Photosmart 7350 printer on Win 98 SE
and got a "Unable to start driver for HPHID411.exe" when I tried to print a
test page. The printer is connected to the PC by an USB cable.

The driver file I used is the one recommended on the HP site and it is
supposed to work on Win 98 SE. The file I downloaded is called
4241_enu_9x_me.exe.

Can anybody help with this?

Thanks in advance.

It's pretty difficult to tell you how to fix the problem since we do not know what HPHID411.EXE is. That's where your going to have to help yourself if your able to perform things like manually cleaning the registry of HP related keys and perform other Windows os technical functions.

It's difficult to disect an EXE file to see what the contents are. If you have WinRAR you can try using it and see if you can view the contents of the printer driver file you downloaded. If you can determine that the HPHID411.EXE file is part of the printer driver program, then I'd guess you have a corrupt printer installation or usb port problems.

If HPHID411.EXE is NOT part of the printer driver program, then you may need to reinstall the program that originally put it on your hard drive.

I'd suggest the first step you need to do is scan your system with a good anti-virus program or an online virus scanner. You omited providing us with some important details of your system, like do you have an AntiVirus program installed, updated, and running properly on your system? And some other details from Device Manager about what's showing there pertaining to your printer and also what condition your USB port(s) are in. Have you tried uninstalling, then manually cleaning remaining HP related files from the \Windows\System32 folder and from the registry, then reinstalling the printer driver? If not I would suggest doing that as well.

Do the basics first, then report details in a 2nd post if you need further help.

Also, is this error only showing up when you send a print job to the printer? And have you ever been able to make it work successfully?
