Yeah this one was tough... I ran into this problem recently when re-doing a Sony VAIO PCV-V300G without the restore disks. No audio driver available from the web site and Sony Tech Support is completely worthless. Hardware ID programs identify the onboard chip as a SIS 7012, but the chipset drivers from their website (SIS) don't work for this PC. Taking these apart to get at the integrated chip is worse than disasembling a laptop, but doing so shows the actual AC 97 codec... AD1981B(L). If you search driverguide for this reference "AD1981B" you will find one download - it works.
Good Luck,
Justin

Hi !
The things You wrote about did not work for me. I installed SiSandra to find out which motherboard and sound chip do I have.
So, the computer has the Asustek motherboard 03/02/2004-sis651-pizza
I looked for the MB model and got some link http://forums.majorgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=46756
But driver for VAIO PCV-V1 did not work either. I started to download and to install all sound drivers from sony site in the PCV-V category.
PCV-V200G sound driver AN-E38600801AO04US.EXE works ok for my computer (WinXp HE)
With great regards,
