I need the modem driver for the HP Pavilion n6395. I am receiving the question mark in device manager and the type of modem is not listed. This modem is onboard. I am just trying to get this up and running for a clien who is a novice user with a windows me os. He purchased the laptop and would like to be able to dial in. Everything else works fine the NIC and the installed wireless nic. I have updated the bios and I am still not getting what type of modem it may be. Help I have been at this for 3 days now.

Unfortunately, HP chooses to not provide free support for laptop owners. They had rather charge for drivers and put more dollars in their pocket. I would never buy a product that was not fully suported free by the maker, but then again I know how laptop makers operate. You should also realize that generic drivers won't work on a laptop, thanks again to the laptop designers. If you don't have restore disks, you then must contact HP for further support.

Click on the Product Information (on the left side of screen) to find out what information about the product is available. Not that it will do any good but you might gain some knowledge about the product.
You can even chat with an HP technician (h20180.www2.hp.com/apps/Nav?h_client=S-A-R4155-1&h_pagetype=s-006&h_lang=en&h_cc=us&h_product=61897) or email HP (h20180.www2.hp.com/apps/Nav?h_client=S-A-R4155-1&h_pagetype=s-005&h_lang=en&h_cc=us&h_product=61897). Another method is to use the online hardware detection method #2 (h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?docname=c00042629&lc=en&cc=us&dlc=en&tool=softwareCategory&product=61897&query=Pavilion%20N6395&os=209&dest_page=softwareCategory).
An alternative is to use a software id program that identifies onboard hardware and motherboard/pc information. You can choose from the 3 choices below:
To find make and model of pc hardware, EVEREST Home Edition is a free system diagnostics, system information program that will id most hardware onboard a mb.
http://www.softpedia.com/get/System/System-Info/Everest-Home-Edition.shtml
Run the program and then:
Click on Computer
Click on Summary
Right hand window (hardware) if the text is blue this is a link to the web site for that particular hardware.

An alternative program is Belarc Advisor from www.belarc.com (a little more simple to use than Everest but not as good about identifying a place to find the driver).

A 3rd program is AIDA32 it's a professional system information, diagnostics and benchmarking program for Windows platforms. It extracts details of all components of the PC. It can display information on the screen, print it, or save it to file in various formats like HTML, CSV or XML. For corporate users, AIDA32 Enterprise offers command-line switches, network audit and audit statistics, remote system information and network management.
