I have a 'Mustek Scan Express 1200 UB Plus' Scanner, I am trying to use it on a MAC computer using operating system OS X Panther. I am told by Mustek that they do not support OS X, is there any clever programmers that have built alternative drivers.

Mustek's support for Mac is odd, to say the least. The 1200 is not supported in Panther, but their own spec says it works with Mac OS 8.0 - 8.5. I'm sure that almost nobody on the planet uses OS 8.0 any more. However, if you have Classic on your computer, then download and install the driver available from DriverGuide itself (ie, this site!) into your Classic/OS 9.2.2.
(If you can boot from OS 9, then do so, and install from there.) Reboot OSX and boot Classic, and run the scanner from any imaging/graphics application there.
Search DriverGuide for Mustek, Scanners, 1200 CU, Mac OS.
DriverGuide says "For Mac OS up to 9.x. Apparently you need this driver if you have a Packard-Bell scanner, PB61248 - they're the same thing!"
