HP's FTP and HTTP site are both working. Please explain what you mean or what your referring to.

When installing CentOS Linux you get prompted to install from CDROM, HTTP, NFS and FTP. FTP and HTTP to my other server does not work so I'm sort of stuck using the CDROM installing CentOS Linux. However when the boot CD prompts me for the CDROM installation, the CentOS Linux install program attempts to acquire the CDROM drive but cannot find the driver since it's a newer CDROM drive. I could not find any Linux drivers at the HP sites for HP HL-DT-ST DVDRRW GSA-H30L. Actually I'm not even sure who the manufactuer is since I did not find any hits on this device at HP's site. The driver properties say it's Microsoft but not sure if they're the actually manufacturer or simply the ones who created the Windows driver for the device. I thought maybe Hitachi or Tsst corp. is the manufacturer but not sure. Thanks.

HP doesn't make any optical drives. they just buy them from one of the 4 or 5 major manufacturers in the far east and then populate them with their own bios code. That way when you have problems with it, you have to deal with HP. They don't even bother anymore to put their name on their drives. If your drive requires a linux driver and HP can't furnish it, I'd suggest you search for a Linux supported forum and inquire there. Sorry, we we're not too strong in Linux support. Perhaps a Linux pro can chime in here and offer you some support.
