no drivers are required. Windows XP operating system provides native support that allows this drive to read a data or music disk and to burn a cd-r disk. In order to play dvd disks, compatible dvd decoding software is required (like WinDVD or PowerDVD). You can get trial versions from Cyberlink or Intervideo websites.

trail versions are limited to total play time and expiry time. Full versions may be purchased online. Did your drive (or machine) not come with dvd decoding software?

I bought it on E-Bay for $15 and all I got was a CD with it with just the CD/RW drivers. When I installed the Player Win XP dosnt reconise the DVD drive on it,just the CD/RW drives.Should it show the DVD side of it also ?

No, Windows XP cannot provide any support for the dvd portion of the drive. It really doesn't matter what Windows calls it in My Computer or Device Manager. If drive will read a data or music disk but won't read a dvd disk, then you do not have dvd decoding software installled. Once you do install such software, the name will not change in My Computer or Device Manager.... but you will be able to play dvd disks once the dvd decoding software is installed. Your installation disk should have dvd decoding software on it... it not then download and try one of the trial versions from the links in my first post.

Also, once the dvd decoding software is installed, when you insert a dvd movie disk, just set back and wait... it will open the software automatically and start playing the movie.
